Each year Young Women Rising holds an essay contest for juniors in high school in Connecticut. The contest is open to both young women and men, the only requirements are that participants be in 11th grade and live in the state.
For the 2016/2017 essay contest, students were asked to answer the following:
“What is one of the most important issues facing young women today and how
do you see yourself having an impact on that issue?”.
Two overall winners have been selected and will be publicly announced at an awards ceremony at Women’s Day at the State Capitol on March 8, 2017. Winners will be presented with plaques by their state legislators and the YWRising steering committee and will be highlighted in the YWRising newsletter and other media outlets. Some participant essays, not limited to the winners, may be included in a Commission on Women, Children and Seniors (CWCS) publication or on the YWRising blog, but will not formally be recognized at Women’s Day.
