Elected Office

Did you know that women make up only 29% of the Connecticut legislature? Did you know that young women (under 40) make up an even smaller percentage of those in elected office in our state?

If you’ve ever considered running for office, whether in your local town or state-wide, we strongly encourage you to follow that path. Young Women Rising is nonpartisan and like our parent agency, The Commission on Women, Children and Seniors, we want to encourage women to run for office and be involved in the political process.

One of the best resources for women interested in running for office is the Women’s Campaign School at Yale University. Check out their website .

The Women’s Campaign School at Yale University is a non-partisan, issue-neutral leadership program, whose mission is to increase the number and influence of women in elected and appointed office in the United States and around the globe.

Additionally, stay tuned to our newsletter and social media because we occasionally provide opportunities for young women to network directly with elected officials!
